Hovik Sardaryan (*1993, Armenia) is a composer based in Berlin. He studied composition at the Yerevan State Conservatory with Ashot Zohrabyan. Supported by a DAAD scholarship, he continued his studies at the Karlsruhe University of Music with Wolfgang Rihm; in 2024 he completed his Konzertexamen in composition at the Saar University of Music with Arnulf Herrmann. His works for chamber and orchestral forces have been performed in various European contexts. In 2026, Sardaryan was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize. Further distinctions include the Busoni Advancement Prize of the Berlin Academy of the Arts and first prize at the Trabant Competition of Ensemble Phoenix Basel. In 2021/22 he received the Schwarzkopf Composition Scholarship of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. His orchestral work Ikone was created as part of the Roche Young Commissions and premiered at the Lucerne Festival in 2023. Recent commissions include Agni (ensemble mosaik) and …and the Sun was Green… (Klangforum Wien).
